I'll celebrate if I have to, but...

I don't like Mother's Day. There, I said it. I'm a mom and this is quite possibly the my least favorite day of the year.

I published this article last year when I was an editor for Type-A Mom. It pretty much explains why I'm perpetually at odds with the second Sunday of May.

I understand what a beautiful day today is for so many other moms. I go to great lengths to celebrate my own mother. So for those of you whose hearts and homes are full today, happy Mother's Day. I wish you love, joy, and relaxation.

As for me, well, I'll quietly celebrate to myself when I can wrap my arms around all four of my boys tomorrow.

To me it's like Valentines Day. Another Hallmark holiday designed to make us feel worse about ourselves, no matter what our situation is.

I am not into this year and I'm never really that into it.

But either way, enjoy today...and enjoy all of your boys tomorrow. Hugs.

That's a great article. And you're right--stepmothers have a reputation that precedes us and people do make assumptions. But not the children that we love and who know that we do.

Your article was beautiful and obviously very heartfelt. I'm sorry your family isn't able to be together on Mother's Day.

Come over to Israel one day if you want to escape the Hallmark-gone-mad nature of the holiday in the US. It's a complete non-issue here. We have an anemic "Family Day" in January or so (I'm not even sure when, it's that much of a non-event) and that's it.

I hope it was a quietly good day.

Very sweet and heartfelt. Your stepson is lucky to have you.
My stepson lives with us full-time and doesn't even see his mom. The pain it causes him is hard to watch. Makes me want to rip her a new @$$hole.

Great article. I'm a stepmom too and yea, we don't get the recognition we deserve. I do EVERYTHING possible to help my stepson's feel part of the family. It's a tough job.
